Brandy, or fruit based spirits, is slowly but surely, becoming reintegrated into thoughtful spirits and cocktail programs around the world. About time, because there is an abundance of fantastic brandy available. In 2018 we had a total of six Chairman's Trophy winners among the different brandy categories. The winner of the European category was won by an outstanding French brandy, Lucien Bernard XO - 2017 Release with 96 Points and an Ultimate Recommendation. Elegant, focused aromas of spice and stewed stone fruit are evident on the nose. Roasted grains, tart tatin, vanilla bundt cake, and Earl Grey tea come to mind. The supple body never overpowers the mouth, and provides a long lasting finish.
