One of the newest technological advancements in the wine world has nothing to do with grapes or vinification. Instead, it’s to do with the label. 

Using cute animals or funny twists of words is a common tactic to make wine stand out to consumers, but the newest way to grab attention is with augmented reality. Producers like 19 Crimes have released labels that are interactive and come to life with the help of a smartphone. The short videos prompt the viewer to take part in the experience, becoming a photographer and snapping a photo, for example. The fun and surprising twist is added value for the tech minded and anyone who likes a bit of novelty. Will playful labels incorporating augmented reality increase sales significantly? If so, among which demographic? It’s still too early to tell, but certainly it's an interesting addition to the world of wine marketing.
