Wine Score: J Lohr Highlands Bench Pinot Noir

The enchanting pinot noir grape has long fascinated winemakers and drinkers alike. An excellent wine made from this noble grape is something worth celebrating. 2018’s Ultimate Wine Challenge had a few great contenders for the Chairman's Trophy in the pinot noir category, but in the end the J. Lohr Highlands Bench Pinot Noir 2015 Santa Lucia Highlands from California stole the show. The 97 Point score was awarded for its exceptional balance and overall swoon factor. At $35, the bottle overperforms in quality and elegance.

Pungent nose; suggestions of black truffle, cured meats, lingonberry, dried orange peel, and fire-roasted herbs. Silky tannins and plummy fruit frame the palate with hints of rhubarb, resin, and cumin. Truly an exquisite wine.
